Luis Diaz one of Rafa Benitez’s main summer transfer targets looks set to go elsewhere as more news about his likely fee emerges pricing Everton out of a move for him.

The Everton manager was apparently keen to bring the Colombian winger to Everton but a potential swap deal with James Rodriguez going to Porto in return, fell through over the former Real Madrid man’s wages.

Now it looks as though the Toffees’ will miss out on him as Porto are likely to want more than £50 million for him, which would surely put the 24-year-old out of the Blues’ price range.

Newcastle United are now inevitably being touted as the more probable destination for Diaz as new Magpies’ boss Eddie Howe looks to start spending some of that new wealth he has.

Diaz has been in superb form and would have been a great addition to Everton’s attack and missing out on him would be a blow if he was to go elsewhere.

This whole saga underlines again the consequences of the Blues’ wasteful and you could say almost reckless spending in past seasons.

As a result, the club are now hamstrung by Financial Fair Play regulations, which are preventing Benitez from spending what he might want to.

There is an argument and one I have considered, that tighter spending constraints could be benificial and force the club to look much more carefully at future recruitment. But still, missing out on a talent like Diaz for lack of funds is frustrating.

In other transfer speculation, the Toffees’ are also yet again being linked with a move for Aaron Ramsey in the January window.

This is a story that keeps surfacing again and again with various sources claiming that Everton are frontrunners to bring the Welsh international back to England.

It does look as though the ex-Arsenal player will be leaving Juventus possibly as soon as the January window as the Italian giants try to trim their wage bill.

Ramsey could certainly provide some additional high quality and experience in the middle of the park and more options in the engine room does seem to be at the top of the club’s agenda for January moves.

The Welshman’s wages would seem to be a major stumbling block in terms of any move to Everton and that plus his age and past injury problems would probably rule out such a deal happening.
