Further reports today claim Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard is ready to leave Old Trafford in January. So, could Everton make a double swoop on United in the new year?

Lingard is a player who has been long associated with Everton and again his name has popped up as a possible candidate for a new year transfer window deal.

He joins his team-mate Donny Van de Beek as a player looking for a way out of Old Trafford as their chances at United are seriously limited and another who has also been heavily linked with a move to Merseyside.

So, should the Blues’ make a double swoop in January and try to get both these two players?

As we know now, the Toffees’ want a midfielder and another forward if they can get them in this upcoming new year window.

Lingard would seem to fit the bill as the sort of attacking player who would offer exactly what Everton need more of.

The England international had a fine season last term when he moved to West Ham on loan and it seemed as though he had revived his career with those performances.

He didn’t stay in east London and returned to United probably expecting more playing time. But that hasn’t happened and he has once again found his chances very limited.

Even so, he has been very productive scoring two goals from five substitute appearances and it seems he is particularly effective playing wide on the right side.

As for Van de Beek as we all know the Blues’ tried to get the Dutchman on loan in the summer but again that deal didn’t happen.

Marcel Brands presumably knows the former Ajax star well and seems to feel he could offer that extra midfield reinforcement Rafa Benitez wants in the engine room.

In theory he could offer some additional defensive strength and protection in front of his defence and potential creativity too in support of the attack.

So, could it make sense for Everton to try and tie up loan deals for both these players and solve their two pressing needs at once?

There are obviously major stumbling blocks such as any potential fees as United might not be prepared to let either player go on loan.

The Toffees’ continue to be tied by their need to stay within Financial Fair Play rules and that without further major sales of existing players it will be challenging to do any further business in Janaury’s window.
