Everton signed Cenk Tosun in January 2018 in a bid to replace Romelu Lukaku who left for Manchester United in 2017. The Turk was regarded as a dangerous poacher who had bagged 111 goals in 268 games in Turkey for Besiktas and Gaziantepspor.

In roughly four years’ time in England, the striker has failed to replicate the impressive level of performances that he exhibited in Turkey. In 59 games played for the Toffees, he has netted just 11 goals and provided six assists, an underwhelming return for £27 million investment in a striker.

Tosun is reaching the business end of his deal at Goodison Park and is open to returning back to the Turkish league with former employer Besiktas eyeing the 30 year old. Numerous stories have been run on the Turk’s potential return to the Vodafone Park.

Everton should be willing to listen to offers in January and offload him to save some cash from the wage books while also hoping for a minimal fee through a loan or a permanent transfer. Besiktas have always been keen to reunite with Tosun and the January transfer window gives Kara Kartallar a chance to wrap up the signing and acquire his services now rather than waiting until the summer.

Besiktas have reached an agreement with Everton striker Cenk Tosun

According to Sabah (via Sport Witness), Besiktas have reached a personal agreement with Tosun. The 30 year old is seen to be nowhere in Rafa Benitez’s plans as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison continue to be first choice starters. Salomon Rondon serves as a striker backup with youngsters Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbin appearing sporadically.

Tosun was out with a Patella rupture for over six months and seems to be nearing the end of his cycle at Everton. Besiktas enjoy the premium of being the only interested party, giving them more power and flexibility to negotiate.

The Turkish giants plan to offer a short loan deal to Tosun and allow his current deal to expire with Everton. Upon expiry, in the summer, the Turk will sit down with Besiktas representatives to discuss a long term contract, joining as a free agent.

With personal terms already agreed, Besiktas now have to negotiate with the Toffees and reach an agreement. Kara Kartallar are unwilling to offer any loan fee which may not go down too well with Everton who will be seeking some kind of a fee for offloading Tosun.

Negotiations have begun between the two clubs and Besiktas hope to find an agreement soon as Tosun is already open to moving to the Vodafone Arena and has personal terms agreed. Offloading Tosun will help Everton save around £1.5 million in wages for the remainder of the season which would act as a boost in the treasury.
