Everton locate £6 million Seamus Coleman successor
Everton finally answered the cries for more support for Seamus Coleman in the winter transfer window, signing Nathan Patterson from Rangers. It now appears that the Toffees are looking for another right back Bright Osayi-Samuel who can become an immediate successor to Coleman.
For much of the 2020-21 season, Coleman was the only natural right back on the Everton roster. Jonjoe Kenny wasn’t trusted by Carlo Ancelotti and was sent out on loan in the second half of the season. Coleman has been plagued by a number of injuries in recent times as age takes its toll on muscle health. In such circumstances, the Toffees have lacked a reliable backup and have often had to rely upon Mason Holgate or Ben Godfrey to deputize in the right back role.
There had been numerous attempts to sign right backs like Max Aarons, Mehmet Zeki Celik, and Patterson but all of the pursuits failed until the winter transfer window. After Rangers rejected Everton’s summer offers, the Scottish side finally agreed to let their starlet leave for a fee that could reach £16 million.
Arriving as a youngster who just completed his teenage years and stepped into his twenties, Patterson had bucket loads of potential but he isn’t polished yet. He has arrived from the Scottish League and doesn’t command the experience required to go toe to toe with some of the greatest players in the Premier League.
Everton eye Bright Osayi-Samuel
He is extremely talented and has shown a glimpse of his abilities in the 45 minutes he has played for the senior side. With Patterson being a work in progress, the question about Coleman’s immediate successor still lingers. Soon, the Irishman will take a backseat role and Patterson still developing, the need for a right back who is capable of instantly slotting into the team arises.
According to Turkish media outlet En Son Haber, Everton want to sign Fenerbahce right back Osayi-Samuel who has quickly garnered attention from top clubs across Europe through his flamboyant and solid performances. The Nigerian has played a total of 42 games for the Turkish giants, netting two goals and assisting another five.
Osayi-Samuel previously operated as a winger but transformed into a right back this season which has seen his performances skyrocket this season. The Toffees admire Osayi-Samuel’s abilities who bombards the right flank with pace and energy meanwhile also contributing heavily in defence.
The report suggests that Frank Lampard is fond of the Nigerian and wants him in the squad as a successor to captain Coleman. Once the league is over and Everton are sure about where will they play their next season’s football, the club chiefs will ask about Osayi-Samuel.
The 24 year old has a market value of £5.4 million which isn’t a steep valuation. The Toffees should be comfortable in matching the market value for a bright full back. Whether such a transfer operation does happen or not remains to be seen.
Will Bright Osayi-Samuel arrive at Everton next season?
