Dominic Calvert-Lewin was often the isolated man for Everton
Attack:
Demarai Gray – 5
Potential player of the season Anthony Gordon was given a rest and Demarai Gray started. In a rare chance for Everton, Gray had a chance but his powerful shot that was palmed by Aaron Ramsdale. Gray looked charged up and tried to conjure up something in the first half but he didn’t have much success. Had a couple of half chances but he couldn’t take them and create something out of it.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 5
With Arsenal pressing forward and Everton absorbing pressure, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was often the isolated man. On rare occasions that Everton pushed forward or had half a chance in the first half, it was often Calvert-Lewin who was involved. He laid a perfect pass for Van de Beek to put the ball in the back of the net.
His second half was silent and insignificant as Everton failed to create any chances or provide adequate service to the Englishman. Nonetheless, he worked hard and completed another 90 minutes.
Dele Alli – 5
With Richarlison missing out due to a minor injury and also earning a much deserved rest, Dele Alli started on the left, off Calvert-Lewin. Was greeted by Arsenal boos as he first touched the ball. Throughout the first half, Alli had very little chances to be creative on the ball as a lot of his time was spent defending or trying to win the ball back.
Substitutions:
Donny van de Beek – 5
Donny van de Beek came on for Doucoure and had very little impact until the goal he scored at the brink of half time.
Anthony Gordon – N/A
Gordon came on for Alli in the second half, offering some pace on the left flank.
Isaac Price – N/A
Issac Price came on for Tom Davies with 15 minutes to go, making his Premier League debut for Everton. He was played by Martin Odegaard’s fake shot as the Norwegian calmly passed the ball past Begovic.
Everton will be hoping to forget this season and start afresh.
