The midfield might see some face changes this summer with Everton looking to refresh the squad and bring in fit first team players. In the engine room, Allan is touted for an exit to Serie A, whereas the doubts over Andre Gomes’ future remain. The Toffees are monitoring Ederson Silva to reinforce the midfield.
Everton’s midfield was revamped when Carlo Ancelotti brought Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez to the club. Since then, Rodriguez has departed to the Middle East, meanwhile, Allan has often fallen prey to knocks and injuries which has forced him in and
out of the team. With this, the expiring contract of Fabian Delph and loan completion of Donny van de Beek leaves Everton with an insufficient core.
Gomes has also not lived up to the expectation, regularly missing games due to injuries and the games that he plays, he looks out of sync and is often overrun. Frank Lampard wants to have a squad that remains fit and not injury prone. Injuries were one of Everton’s biggest enemies last season and a major factor in why the Toffees landed themselves in a relegation battle.
Having more depth in the team is always welcome to a manager. The Toffees seem to be searching for a midfielder as links to Joao Palhinha have resurfaced and Conor Gallagher has also been linked . Now, Ederson has also been linked to the club.
Everton show interest in Salernitana’s Ederson Silva
According to TEAMtalk, Everton and Crystal Palace are interested in Salernitana midfielder Ederson. The 22 year old Brazilian joined Salernitana in January and was instrumental in helping his side avoid relegation by one point. In 15 games played for the Italian, he’s largely occupied a central midfield role and netted twice from that position.
The former Corinthians man could be on the move again and could make his way to the Premier League. He joined Salernitana for a modest fee of under £6 million and if I Granata decide to sell him, they can generate decent profits but since the player just arrived six months ago, the Italians might show some resistance to selling him.
There is no release clause in his deal so Everton and Crystal Palace will have to launch a bidding war. Ederson has the capability to perform in the defensive midfield role and has a high work rate.

The 22 year old completes 1.49 dribbles per game and records 2.28 touches in the opposition penalty area. Defensively, he’s a strong tackler, never shying away from putting in a meaty tackle, registering 3.06 tackles per 90 minutes. When he gets forward he ensures that he makes it count, recording 2.2 shot creating actions per game and taking 1.73 shots. (stats via FBref)
Everton does need a reliable midfielder who manages to stay fit and provide energy in the middle. In a more possession friendly side, Ederson’s passing stats are also bound to improve.
The Toffees seem to be closely monitoring a number of midfielders and as the summer progresses, it will be clearer as to which type of midfielder is Everton targeting.
