Everton are in strong contention to land plenty of stars this summer. Their latest target is a golden boot winner and he is only 23 years old. Valentin Castellanos is the wunderkind who the toffees are now showing interest in but they will have to pay a considerable sum.
According to The Mirror, the club will have to give up about £12.8 million to bring the centre forward. The price is well worth it because Castellanos thrived for his club at New York City FC.
Castellanos had his best season in 2021 when he scored 19 goals to win the golden boot in his fourth season. The Argentine centre forward led his team to a playoff berth finishing fourth on the table. He also contributed three goals to a championship run that season. He led the MLS in playoff goals that season.
Everton will be looking to revitalise their offence after their lacklustre season ended in premier league survival. Everton’s leading top scorer was Richarlison with 10 Premier League goals, meanwhile, star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin spent the majority of his time on the sidelines due to injury.
Could Valentin Castellanos be a replacement to Calvert-Lewin at Everton?
Richarlison and his teammate Calvert-Lewin’s future at Everton is very much in the air as big clubs like Arsenal are keeping an eye on the duo. In the event of a sale, Castellanos could make a great replacement for them down the line as he has averaged 0.7 goals per game to start this season.
Castellanos has composure and power in front of the goal and his potential is off the charts. The Toffees could use the 23-year old in their squad as soon as next season. The 23 year old has 7.71 touches in the penalty area per 90 minutes while averaging 4.16 shots per game, featuring in the top three per cent of MLS attackers in the above parameter. The Argentine is dominant in the air too, winning 3.66 aerial duels per game. (stats via FBref)

The Argentine is untested in the Premier League but he has a penchant for scoring which will ease his transition should he join the Toffees. However, a lot depends on what happens with Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin. If either of the two leaves the club, Everton will have to jump into the market to sign a forward and that’s when Castellanos could come in handy.
Castellanos was deemed as ‘fantastic’ by his coach Ronny Deila and the Toffees do face competition to bring this fantastic attacker to Goodison Park. Everton will have to outbid multiple clubs to land the MLS ace. Newcastle United, West Ham, and Leeds have all expressed interest in bringing in the young standout.
