Everton striker Ellis Simms had an impressive loan spell at Hearts. He is set to return to Everton after his loan spell but Scottish giants Rangers have been tipped to bring Simms back to Scotland.
Last summer, Everton signed Salomon Rondon on a free transfer as a backup to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison. The Toffees already had Cenk Tosun in the wings and Lewis Dobbin was an upcoming youngster. The presence of so many forwards meant that the development of Ellis Simms was getting hampered so the striker was sent out on loan in the second half of the season.
In 21 appearances for the Hearts of Midlothian, Simms netted seven goals and provided one assist. Simms also scored in the crucial semi final of the Scottish Cup which saw Hearts progress to the final but lose to Celtic.
There are murmurs of Hearts pursuing a permanent deal for the 21 year old Everton youngster or taking him back on loan but former Rangers player Kenny Miller has tipped Rangers to bring Simms to Ibrox.
Rangers tipped to bring Everton striker Ellis Simms to Ibrox
"The one player in Scotland I’d look at for Rangers is Simms. I really like the look of him. When you see the trouble Rangers had with strikers towards the end of the season, it’s something I’d consider.I’m sure the kid will have a few suitors down in England. But I’d be surprised if Everton sold him, unless the money was right. It would probably be another loan move. When you look at what he could bring and the way he plays, he might be as close to a Morelos as you’re going to get. He’s not Alfredo Morelos, let’s make that clear. He would have a lot to prove before you put him in that bracket. But the physicality he’s got, the running power and the quality of goals he’s scored in that short period at Hearts – he’s someone I think could be interesting. At the age he’s at, playing in that Rangers team – I think he could score goals (via the Daily Record)"
A decision will soon be made by Everton. Perhaps, Frank Lampard will assess the 21 year old in pre-season and make a decision whether to keep him at Everton or send him out on another loan adventure.
Everton have a similar predicament with Nathan Broadhead too. The Toffees could either sell him or loan him out again. Lampard must choose if he wants to keep Simms with the first team where he can train with players like Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin but that could potentially mean that he won’t get as much playing time or send him out on loan where he can get regular minutes under his belt.
Should the Toffees send Ellis Simms on another loan?
