Everton have become very active in the last few days of the transfer window, acquiring Dwight McNeil and Ruben Vinagre. Everton were interested in Idrissa Gueye and now they are closing in on the Senegalese midfielder.

The Toffees have already added reinforcements in defence in the form of James Tarkowski and Vinagre. In attack, McNeil’s signing improves the attack but the midfield has been crying for reinforcements. Frank Lampard has tried to bring a quality midfielder to the roster with the names of Harry Winks, Conor Gallagher, Billy Gilmour and Leander Dendoncker linked to the club.

The move for Winks fizzled out after Richarlison completed his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is yet to make a decision on Gilmour whereas there haven’t been any updates in Dendoncker chase. However, the talks for Gueye have picked up momentum and spread like wildfire.

It was only reported on Thursday that the Blues were keen on bringing Gueye back. The negotiations have been progressing quickly and smoothly because of the agreement of all parties. The Toffees want to sign Gueye back, PSG wants to offload the 32 year old as soon as possible and the player himself is open to a return to Goodison Park.

Idrissa Gueye in Merseyside for Everton medical

Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano had reported that Gueye to Everton is edging closer as two clubs are discussing a permanent deal. Final details were to be discussed this week and Everton were optimistic of completing the deal. Romano has now provided the latest details on this transfer, stating that the Senegalese is in Merseyside and will undergo a medical soon before signing a contract with Everton.

A deal has already been agreed with PSG and the final few details are being resolved. The 32 year old has already accepted personal terms with the Merseysiders and is waiting for the final steps before signing the contract.

This means that Everton are on course to complete their third acquisition in less than seven days. There were rumours about Ross Barkley’s return to Everton but as it stands, they are just rumours.

Gueye left Everton in 2019, joining PSG for £30 million. The Toffees will not be paying that much to get him back in 2022. His arrival solves a big issue in the midfield, providing a steely ball winning midfielder in the engine room. This should also prompt Everton to actively explore the idea to offload Jean-Philippe Gbamin this summer.
