After yesterday’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, the lack of forward firepower for Everton was once again very clear for all to see.

The Toffees’ did manage to register a goal but that was from ex-Blues’ full-back Lucas Digne who put through his own net and so actually Everton have themselves still failed to score this season.

While I fear that I’m starting to sound like a broken record, this problem has got to be resolved as soon as possible and preferably this week.

There have recently been a relentless number of rumours about this forward and that who are on the Toffees’ radar and could soon be joining the club.

The list of players grows by the day and the latest is Marseille striker Bamba Dieng who has supposedly been offered to Everton by the French club.

This comes after another forward playing in French football, Serhou Guirassy, was also strongly linked with a move to Merseyside.

It doesn’t seem as though the Blues’ are particularly keen on Dieng, at least according to the Echo article, and no deal for the 22-year-old appears imminent.

While obviously Everton need to find the right sort of player with a good attitude and who is going to provide the pace and goal-scoring threat so desperately needed, there is a pressing need for a resolution to this problem.

Dieng has a decent goal-scoring record, at least last year he did, when he netted seven times in eleven starting appearances for Marseille.

That isn’t a bad return for a player who was also regularly used as a substitute and he is a good age too in terms of any potential sell-on value.

But, obviously if Marseille are prepared to let him go and are actively offering his services to other clubs around Europe, that’s bound to raise questions.

I have no idea if this player or indeed any of the others being touted as potential Everton signings are of interest to Kevin Thelwell or Frank Lampard. Again, we continue to wait and see.

But, as i said in my match review yesterday, I really do think the Blues’ must have a deal for someone sorted before they take on Nottingham Forest in what has for me become a must-win match next weekend.
