Everton academy product Anthony Gordon is a hot name amongst Chelsea owners as the London club push to sign the 21 year old. If the player eventually moves out of Everton, the Toffees will have to bring in a replacement. The name of Adnan Januzaj is being considered.

The whole fan base has been split over the Gordon situation. The 21 year old, a local lad and one of the best emerging players at the club has been subject of transfer interest from Chelsea. Gordon won Everton’s young player of the season and player’s player of the season because of his valiant and passionate performances during the 2021-22 season.

Frank Lampard has always been in awe of the youngster and has been outspoken when it comes to his love for working with the academy graduate. Gordon was also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United earlier in the summer but Everton outright rejected any advances from clubs for the winger.

Chelsea have shown serious ambition in signing the England U-21 regular and have already submitted a bid worth £45 million. The Toffees have straightaway rejected the bid and want in excess of £50 million.

Everton think of Adnan Januzaj as Anthony Gordon replacement

One faction of the supporters thinks that £50 million is too good to be turned down, for a player who still is learning his trade, while the other faction of fans are romanticizing the idea of a local boy being the nucleus of the team as Everton head into a rebuild and switch to a new stadium in two seasons’ time.

If Chelsea pulls the trigger and tests Everton’s resolve with a bid of over £50 million, there are chances that the Toffees will take the bite. In that case, the Toffees will have to sign a replacement and they already have thought of a former Manchester United player. According to Spanish media outlet AS, Januzaj remains a target for Everton but will only make an offer for the Belgian after the sale of Gordon.

MLS giants LA Galaxy have also entered the fray to sign the 27 year old who became a free agent this summer after his deal with Real Sociedad expired. Januzaj is yet to make a decision over his next club as three offers remain on the table for the winger.

The former Manchester United attacker has enticing offers from Premier League clubs with Everton and West Ham United are thought to be the most likely English clubs to secure his services. As the Blues wait for clarity over Gordon’s situation, LA Galaxy are ready to move forward with force to beat the competition from European clubs.

LA Galaxy have already signed Riqui Puig from Barcelona and Januzaj will be another sizeable addition to the club. If Everton wants to get ahead of Galaxy in the Januzaj race, they will have to move quickly.
