Everton youngster Anthony Gordon has been heavily linked to Chelsea. Earlier, there were attempts made by Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United to sign Gordon but the efforts were quickly rejected by the Toffees. Chelsea are now said to be determined to close the deal and there’s a real possibility that a deal could go through.

Gordon, Everton’s crown jewel, had a breakthrough season in 2021-22, where he was an integral part of the Everton side, possibly one of the first names on the team sheet. He showcased the passion and a never giving up attitude that propelled Everton forward in games. The 21 year old scored four goals and provided three assists in 40 appearances for the Blues. While these aren’t eye catching numbers, his contributions on the pitch helped Everton survive the relegation battle.

Gordon has formed a close relationship with Frank Lampard. Lampard has a reputation of grooming young players and Gordon is now part of the same school that shaped the futures of Mason Mount, Reece James, Fikayo Tomori and other youngsters.

Chelsea have been pushing to sign Gordon, having already submitted a bid of £45 million. The Blues have rejected that bid and manager Lampard continues to be bullish on Gordon, stating multiple times in press conferences that he is Everton’s player.

Everton want Armando Broja or Conor Gallagher on loan in Anthony Gordon deal

Despite the widespread interest, Lampard wants to keep hold of the player but Gordon is inkling towards leaving the Merseysiders. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the 21 year old has already conveyed to Lampard that he wants to join Chelsea. Chelsea are willing to pay £50 million as transfer fees and another £10 million in add-ons, taking the deal total to £60 million. So far, no deal has been agreed.

Everton would be willing to agree on a deal with Chelsea but certain conditions have been laid out. According to talkSPORT, apart from the £50m+£10m bid, the Merseysiders are keen to bring either Armando Broja or Conor Gallagher on loan. Broja spent the last season on loan at Southampton whereas Gallagher had a loan assignment at Crystal Palace.

Everton are searching for a striker and Broja is one of the names that has popped up all summer. Chelsea have held a very stubborn stance of not selling Broja. While other admirers like West Ham United have pulled out of the race, Everton are still going strong in the hunt for the Albanian.

Gallagher too has had interest from several Premier League sides. Thomas Tuchel was to make a decision on his future after the pre-season. Either of the players will boost Everton’s respective departments but the need for a striker is almost unavoidable.
