Idrissa Gueye’s international team mate linked with Everton move
A Senegal team-mate of Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has been linked with a possible move to Goodison Park as pre-January transfer talk intensifies.
Gueye starred for Senegal as they defeated Ecuador yesterday to secure passage into the last 16, and a game against England where the 33-year-old would have come up against his Everton colleagues Jordan Pickford and Conor Coady.
However, Gueye picked up a yellow card in that match, so he will be suspended and miss the England clash on Sunday night.
Today’s story claims the Blues’ are now looking at potentially signing one of his team-mates in January as the seemingly endless search for striking reinforcements continues.
This latest speculative link concerns 26-year-old Boulaye Dia. The Senegal international playing at the World Cup, is currently registered with La Liga side Villareal.
Dia has been in decent form this season in Italy for Salernitana where he is playing this season on loan, and has netted six times so far in Serie A. He has also scored against Qatar in the World Cup.
The 26-year-old forward is the latest in a long line of prospective strikers who it’s claimed are on the Toffees’ radar.
As we have covered recently, there has apparently been a shortlist of such players drawn up by Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell ready for once the New Year transfer window opens.
Another such striker, one similar in profile to Dia who is also being linked with Everton, is Udinese and Portugal forward Beto.
The 24-year-old is like Dia currently performing in Italy’s Serie A and he has scored six goals in fifteen appearances, eight of which were as a substitute, representing a pretty good return.
Interestingly though, Beto hasn’t featured for Portugal in the World Cup. But, given their attacking resources that’s perhaps not so surprising.
Beto looks the more affordable of the two so it could well be that a move for him is more probable but who knows.
Will one or other of these forwards emerge as a genuine transfer target and be on that list, and if so, is it likely he could end up joining the Blues’?
Again, as with all these stories we obviously don’t know yet and Everton supporters will have to wait for just over another month to find out. In the meantime such links will no doubt continue to proliferate.
