Everton have limited funds to spend this summer and cannot afford to go big on transfers. Hence, signing free agents or targeting loan deals will be the most viable option for the Toffees. EFC have secured one free transfer in Ashley Young and are keen to sign striker Moussa Dembele on a free transfer.

EFC have wrapped the free transfer of Young and are on the verge of completing a loan deal for Arnaut Danjuma. The Merseysiders are now pushing to bring a striker through the doors of Goodison Park as Sean Dyche looks to revamp the EFC attack.

Everton would love to have a fit and firing Dominic Calvert-Lewin but his fitness record hasn’t supported him and EFC cannot take a risk of having just Calvert-Lewin as their goalscorer. Neal Maupay struggled in his first season at Goodison Park and is admired by Salernitana. The sale of Ellis Simms could see Tom Cannon become a part of first team dynamics but the Irishman himself is being linked with a move away from the Toffees.

Free agent Moussa Dembele to choose between Everton and Villarreal

Danjuma can operate in the central role but he is the most effective when playing on the flanks. The Merseysiders will need traditional strikers to reinforce their attack and names of Victor Boniface, Joel Piroe and Brian Brobbey have floated recently. However, the Toffees are not close to completing a deal for any of the aforementioned names.

Last month, EFC were actively tracking the situation of French forward Dembele, who has now become a free agent after leaving Olympique Lyon. EFC held interest in the 27 year old in the winter transfer window too but Dembele decided to see out his contract and start afresh at a new club in the summer.

This summer, Everton were one of the clubs in the running but faced competition from other Premier League clubs as well as Saudi Arabian clubs. According to Liverpool ECHO, Dembele is weighing up on his next move. The 27 year old has a choice between Everton and Villarreal. The La Liga side have contacted Dembele ahead of their Europa League campaign in 2023-24.

If Dembele is to choose between Everton and Villarreal, the Yellow Submarine is able to offer European football which the Toffees cant. If the 27 year old has been attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League, Everton have a chance of landing the former Celtic striker.
