Everton have sealed the transfer of Jack Harrison on loan with medical completed, making him the fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The Toffees continue to remain linked with PSG striker Hugo Ekitike, who could become another striker arrival after Youssef Chermiti.
EFC signed Chermiti from Sporting but it is clear that he won’t be drafted into the starting lineup straightaway. EFC need to sign another striker to complement Dominic Calvert-Lewin and take goalscoring pressure off his shoulders when needed. The Englishman’s grave fitness record doesn’t instill confidence and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
The Toffees were linked to Che Adams, who is also a target for AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. Everton have also shown interest in PSG’s Ekitike. Initially, the Merseysiders were open to signing the Frenchman on a loan deal with an option to buy that could become mandatory depending on certain clauses.
Everton receive huge boost in Hugo Ekitike race
Ekitike was brought to PSG last summer on a season long loan deal with an obligation to buy this summer. The French giants made his move permanent only in July but are ready to do business that could see the 21 year old leave Paris.
Another report suggested that Everton have made a bid of £25.9 million and Ekitike was studying the proposal and considering the project. EFC were waiting for the player’s green light to speed up the deal. However, the Toffees know that they are not alone in the race to sign Ekitike.
Ligue 1 club Lens and German giants Borussia Dortmund are also keen to sign the talented 21 year old striker. According to Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger, Ekitike will definitely joining Borussia Dortmund. The 21 year old is likely to leave PSG with Lens and Everton remaining in the race. However, if none of the proposed moves work out, Ekitike staying in Paris is not ruled out entirely.
The Merseysiders have received a huge boost in Ekitike’s chase as Dortmund are no longer in the running to sign the French striker. Everton would have had no chance to compete with the Bundesliga side as they are able to offer European football and also a shot at the league title. Even RC Lens are able to offer Champions League football but Everton cannot, so the fans shouldn’t be excited.
