It hasn't been a great start to the Premier League Summer Series for Everton, having lost 3-0 to Bournemouth last Saturday at MetLife Stadium and now a 2-1 defeat to West Ham in Chicago last night.
These two matches, coming off a draw at Accrington Stanley, a loss away to Blackburn, and a win behind closed doors against Port Vale at Hill Dickinson, have made for a less than ideal beginning to Everton's preseason.
And sure, preseason matches are more about fitness and building up squad chemistry, but the results, particularly the lack of a clean sheet thus far, should create some bit of worry among Everton supporters.
But it wasn't all doom and gloom for the Toffees, as they did have some players show up and play well during their stints against the Hammers, while there were some that struggled.
Impressed: Harrison Armstrong
The 18-year-old started the match and played the full 90, beginning a little higher up the pitch in a more attacking role, before sliding back alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye and later James Garner in a deeper lying position.
He made a great interception, forward run, and pass to set up Gana for Everton's goal in the first half, and then continued to acquit himself well through the rest of his time on the pitch, save for one heart-in-your-throat moment where a bad touch almost led to a West Ham goal.
The one thing the youngster is showing in this preseason is that he might be ready to contribute for Everton this season, as he doesn't look out of place on the Premier League pitch.
Not so much: Nathan Patterson/James Garner at right back
It's turning into a tale as old as time, or at least the last several years, but Everton need a solution at right back.
This problem is all the more glaring because West Ham, their opponents on the night, have two players that Everton might have secured in recent windows to handle the position in Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters.
Patterson has struggled for most of the preseason and did nothing to show he's the guy for the job in Chicago on Wednesday, while Garner found himself out of position and on the ground as Niclas Fülkrug drove into the box untouched and scored the winner for the Hammers.
Right back has to be the highest priority in the final weeks of the summer transfer window for the Toffees.
Impressed: Illiman Ndiaye & Charly Alcaraz
As rumors about Jack Grealish joining Everton continue to persist, the duo of Ndiaye and Alcaraz have spent most of the preseason showing why bringing the England international might be redudant.
Playing on the left and as the no.10, conceivably Grealish's preferred positions, both the Senegal and Argentina internationals have looked solid in their positions, with the latter having scored in the win over Port Vale at Hill Dickinson.
It was more of the same from both players on Wednesday night, and although you'd like to see more goals from the pair, they've shown the ability to do so in the past and there's nothing to suggest there won't be more of the same this upcoming season.
Not so much: Mark Travers
It wasn't the worst game from the new Everton goalkeeper, starting in place of Jordan Pickford in Chicago. But his major blunder of the game led directly to West Ham's equalizer.
The former Bournemouth 'keeper was indecisive on a ball into the box, in between punching and grabbing the ball, with West Ham's Lucas Paquetá barreling down on him. The lack of commitment led to a punch that went off of Travers' fist and right down into Paquetá's path, leading to an easy tap in.
Outside of that, Travers was fine, although you wonder if he could have positioned himself a bit better for the West Ham winner. He's the best of the recent back-up goalies that Everton have had, but Pickford won't be sweating his spot.
Impressed: Vitalii Mykolenko
As the sole left back available for Everton tonight, the Ukrainian again played the full 90, and looked solid in doing so.
Mykolenko continues to look good defensively, even if he lacks the skill as a forward runner, something David Moyes hopes will be solved by new signing Adam Aznou.
Still, it will take the new boy some time to get acclimated to the Premier League, and, at just 19, the pressure shouldn't be on him to start right away. So Everton are in good hands with Mykolenko, who has had a good preseason so far after another good showing on Wednesday night.
Not so much: Michael Keane
Everton nearly conceded inside of the first minute when a stray back pass by Keane led to a one-on-one between West Ham striker Callum Marshall and Mark Travers.
The Everton 'keeper was up to the task, but it was one of a few errors by Keane, who also had a poor pass that Jarrod Bowen intercepted and nearly turned into a Hammers' third goal later in the match.
Keane wasn't brough back to be a starter on this team, and with James Tarkowski making his return to the side and the hope that Jarrad Branthewaite's injury isn't too serious, there shouldn't be much pitchtime for the English centerback.
But Jake O'Brien arguably looks more comfortable at right back, so there will be questions about who would be the next man up should Tark or JB go down.
Honorable mention: Isaac Heath
The young winger looked lively during his 10-minute cameo on Wednesday. And while he isn't ready for a big jump (he's only reached the Everton U18s so far), the experience was good for the young player.
