Everton are setting up for a huge event surrounding the Goodison Park finale for the first team men's squad. They've also been posting a lot of memories about the Grand Old Lady via social media, creating a sense of earned importance around the match.
The Toffees will welcome already-relegated Southampton to Goodison for the occasion, hoping to provide a better outcome than when they played also already-relegated Ipswich Town a few weeks ago, leading to a disappointing 2-2 draw.
There will be plenty of emotions flowing throughout the day, starting from the moment fans make their way to the ground until well past the final whistle, when the post-match celebration begins, and probably beyond.
So it will be vital for the Everton players to keep their heads and not let the emotion overwhelm them, since avoiding a loss to a poor side in Goodison's final match would be a major letdown.
With all that to consider, let's make three predictions for the final match for Sunday.
Prediction 1: Everton will struggle early and fans will become restless
My experience as an Evertonian suggests this will be the case only because it seems to have been true a lot in recent memory. It was how my trip to Goodison this March began, and the grandness of the occasion does not suggest that the Toffees will be able to immediately get on the front foot.
Not to mention that Southampton will be keen to play spoiler for the final match at Goodison, and their defense has been so porous this season that you'll expect them to park the bus from the beginning and hope they can catch Everton on the counter.
That's what the Saints did to Manchester City last weekend, with the Sky Blues holding nearly three-quarters of the possession and taking 26 shots, with an xG of 1.82, but managing zero goals in a 0-0 draw at Saint Mary's.
Everton are not Manchester City and often have a difficult time when the other side concedes possession, so even though David Moyes should see this coming, I'd still anticipate a nervy opening 15 to 20 minutes, leading to a restless Goodison crowd.
Prediction 2: Everton will score before the half, leaving Southampton with a conundrum
In some ways, I expect this match to go a lot like last weekend's trip to Craven Cottage, where Everton were dreadful for most of the first half before nicking a goal and heading into the dressing room with some confidence.
The difference is that Southampton won't have many chances to score, and so they won't, making the bulk of the first half a dull, scoreless affair.
Just for fun, that goal will come from Everton's Iliman Ndiaye.
But once the nerves get shaken, the Toffees will remember they are the better team and the importance of taking over the match, and they'll find a way to get a goal heading into the half, which will make Simon Rusk have to decide between opening up his team, and thereby making it easier for Everton's lead to increase, or continuing to park the bus to avoid getting embarassed.
With nothing to play for, Rusk will probably open things up, leading to the final prediction.
Prediction 3: Everton win by multiple goals, with a final Goodison clean sheet for Jordan Pickford
Southampton have won just two Premier League matches all season, albeit one against Everton at Saint Mary's earlier in the campaign.
They've also managed just 25 goals, while shipping 82, a whopping 2.28 goals per match. Even though Everton haven't been world beaters this season, the Moyes-led Toffees have shown themselves capable of bagging multiple goals when the opposition's defensive record is poor.
Including last weekend's scoreless draw against Manchester City, Southampton have managed just four clean sheets on the season: against Sean Dyche's Everton squad in early November, with the others a scoreless draw against Fulham in December, and a FA Cup win over Swansea in January.
Jordan Pickford has 10 clean sheets of his own for Everton and with little offensive threat coming from the Saints, expect another on Sunday.
