Everton Academy graduate Jenson Metcalfe will join Bradford City on a permanent deal. The move is, of course, for an undisclosed fee.
The young midfielder will join a club that earned promotion to League One last season after finishing third in League Two, just behind Doncaster and Port Vale, Everton's opponent in their behind-closed-doors friendly earlier this week.
They'll open the new season at home on August 2, facing off against Wycombe Wanderers.
Metcalfe has spent his first four seasons as a professional with Everton's PL2 and U18 squads, before securing a loan to League Two side Chesterfield last year. He played in 28 matches, starting 20, and logged just over 1700 minutes during the spell, netting once and adding an assist to his tally for the year.
And now he'll get a chance to be a more permanent part of a club at an ever higher level, where he'll turn 21 just a month into the season. Which is the say that he'll have plenty of opportunities to prove himself in League One, and hopefully help Bradford City be successful during this upcoming campaign.
During his brief spell against Blackburn, Metcalfe looked quite comfortable on the ball and showed good energy, something he'll hope to bring to his new side.
But the move must be bittersweet, since the lad has been at Everton since he was just five years old, and the Toffees were the club that signed him to his first professional contract ten years later.
Still, the opportunity for first-team football, even if isn't at the Premier League level just yet, was likely difficult for him to pass up. Best of luck to Jenson for the next phase of his career with the Bantams and their supporters in West Yorkshire.
