Tyler Dibling is the latest player that Everton have logged interest in, and Paul Joyce of The Times indicates that the club has already had a bid rejected by Southampton.

Joyce goes on to suggest that a bid slightly higher than the £27 million Everton sent over could get the move sanctioned by the Saints, maybe something closer to £35 million.

Dibling, who just turned 19 in March, has very little professional footballing experience, with just 43 total appearances at the top level for Southampton, most of which came last season. His output doesn't suggest a player who will score a lot of goals, but he does appear to be quite tidy on the ball and is a more than adequate passer.

His youth and relative inexperience means that even if Everton do return to make another bid, he won't be able to be counted upon to be a fixture in the starting XI next season. There's nothing wrong with bringing on players whose best years are ahead of them, in fact that should be encouraged, but the problem with leaning so heavily on young players is you aren't sure what you're going to get.

With Thierno Barry and Adam Aznou, Everton have already invested in players of that ilk. Young, talented footballers who should be able to grow to be major contributors for this club.

But at this juncture, the Toffees need a lot more immediate help, as evidenced by the performances so far in the preseason. This is especially true at right back, right wing, and possibly even in central midfield.

So even if Dibling comes, and there are indications that he is interested in joining, it require Everton to also invest in a more seasoned player who can help the young Englishman along. His experience in the Premier League last year will help, but unless you expected him to suddenly start 30+ matches next year, he cannot be the only move.
