There's been a lot of talk on PRT about Tyler Diblin, the Southampton winger who Everton appear keen to add to their ranks this summer.
Paul Joyce of The Times is reporting that Everton's second bid was around £35 million, after seeing a £27 million inquiry rejected by the Saints. The report also suggests that a third try is on the way from David Moyes and his transfer committee, this time closer to £40 million.
At this point, it isn't worth interrogating whether or not Dibling would be a good fit for this squad, not only because its already been done, but also because Everton seem fairly set on making him a Toffee before the end of the week. The teenager wants to get back to the Premier League after last year's difficult campaign with relegated Southampton.
Dibling isn't going to answer all the questions on the right wing for Everton, who have tried both Dwight McNeil and Charly Alcaraz in that slot during the preseason with varying degrees of effectiveness. But the 19-year-old will offer someone who, albeit limited due to his age, does have experience playing as a right winger in the Premier League.
It's also easy to see his creativity and dribbling being more useful on a better team, even though the preseason has shown that Everton need to be more clinical in front of goal. The lack of goals is worrying, to be sure, but there may be more opportunities for him on Merseyside than there were at Southampton last season given the state of that squad.
Time will tell if the Saints actually want to sell the player (this is the same club that reportedly put a £100 million price tag on Dibling just a few weeks ago) or if they're just making Everton go through the motions for nothing. But Everton need to start adding players, as the opening of the season nears in just a few short weeks.
