Everton are among several clubs that are monitoring Sevilla wonderkid Stanis Idumbo. The Toffees are looking to strengthen their attack, and the Belgian youngster has caught the eye of several clubs across Europe.
In the summer, Everton reinforced their attack with the signings of Iliman Ndiaye and loan acquisitions of Jack Harrison and Jesper Lindstrom. Everton have struggled to find an attacking midfielder who will support the attack and create goalscoring chances for the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto up top.
Abdoulaye Doucoure has performed well in the role behind the striker but has struggled to create goalscoring chances for others around him. Dwight McNeil and Ndiaye has addressed those worries to a certain extent with McNeil often playing as a creator and Ndiaye supporting him to create chances.
Harrison hasn’t quite fired this season and Lindstrom has played just 415 minutes of football for EFC so far. Even though Everton have an option to buy Lindstrom at the end of the season, it is looking unlikely given the little involvement he has had in the games.
Everton scout Sevilla youngster Stanis Idumbo
In such a scenario, signing an attacking midfielder either in January or next summer seems to be a sensible step. According to Caught Offside, Everton were one of the three English clubs who sent scouts to watch Sevilla’s Idumbo. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder made his Sevilla debut this season and has impressed in the limited opportunities he has had.
EFC, Aston Villa and Brighton sent scouts to watch Idumbo in the recent games, including Sevilla’s game against Barcelona, where he scored the only goal for Sevilla in the 5-1 thrashing. The English clubs are impressed with the Belgian’s talent and are keen on the rising sensation.
However, the La Liga club is not interested in selling Idumbo. So, if Everton, Villa or Brighton are to prize away the 19-year-old, they might have to offer a big money cheque to convince Sevilla into agreeing a transfer.
Not only English clubs but also other clubs across Europe like Borussia Dortmund and Benfica are keen on the Belgian attacking midfielder. Idumbo has been a hot prospect since the days he was in the Ajax academy and seems to have a big future after showing a glimpse of his talent at Sevilla.
Idumbo is capable of playing on either wing and in the middle as an attacking midfielder. His versatility gives Everton variety of options and allows the manager to tinker with the team combination.
Should EFC or any other club sign him, he is not expected to become a starter straight away as he still must hone his skills. Thankfully, Idumbo has time on his side.
