Everton are on the back of a promising first season at the Hill Dickenson Stadium, where they finished 13th in the Premier League. This was only four points off a European spot. David Moyes is about to embark on his second season back at Everton.
Moyes looks to be able to guide the Toffees back to where they were in his first stint at the club. They were then challenging for European places and got to the FA Cup final in 2009. The last campaign did not end well, with the Toffees winless in their last seven matches.
Consistency will be key to Everton having a good season. Moyes will want his side to hit the ground running as they host Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener tomorrow.
Predicted starting 11 for the Toffees' Premier League opener
Goalkeeper and Defenders
GK: Jordan Pickford
Jordan Pickford has been Everton's undisputed number one since he joined the club from Sunderland in 2017. His form for the Toffees has ensured that he is England's first-choice goalkeeper too. There is no doubt that he will start against Palace, with Tom King and Mark Travers as Everton's backup options.
RB: Jake O'Brien
Jake O'Brien should keep his place as first-choice right-back. Nathan Patterson is currently his understudy at the club.
CB: James Tarkowski
The Everton captain, James Tarkowski, is now 33, so he is an experienced option at the back for the Toffees.
CB: Jarrad Branthwaite
Tarkowski needs younger legs around him, so Jarrad Branthwaite, who is just 24, fits the mould. Michael Keane is another centre-back option for Moyes.
LB: Vitaliy Mykolenko
The Ukrainian, Vitaliy Mykolenko, should be Everton's first-choice left-back this season. Adam Aznou, just 20, is a younger option at the position.
Midfielders
CDM: Hayden Hackney
Everton won the race to sign the highly-rated Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough this summer. He could be in line to make his competitive debut with Christian Nørgaard and James Garner injured.
CDM: Kiernan Dewsbury Hall
Kiernan Dewsbury Hall could slot in alongside Hackney, but the former Chelsea man will be the more attacking one of the holding midfielders. Dewsbury Hall scored eight goals with six assists in 31 games for the Toffees last season, so he is a threat in the attacking third.
CAM: Merlin Röhl
Merlin Röhl has recently joined Everton permanently from Freiburg. Last season was mixed for Röhl, but he did manage to finally score a goal for the Toffees in their penultimate game of the season against Sunderland.
Forwards
RW: Iliman Ndiaye
There has been speculation about Iliman Ndiaye's future at Everton this summer. He has been linked with Manchester United and Al-Hilal. However, he has scored in the Toffees' last two pre-season games, so he should be in line to start.
Brennan Johnson, who has recently joined the club from Crystal Palace, is another option on the wing for the Eagles. Tyler Dibling is another Everton right-winger, but he is yet to impress as he did at Southampton.
CF: Thierno Barry
There have been rumours about Everton bringing in another center-forward this transfer window. This includes reports of Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal. However, for now, Moyes will have to make do with Thierno Barry and Beto. Barry may just edge the starting spot over Beto for this weekend's game.
LW: Tyrique George
Tyrique George joined Everton permanently after being on loan from Chelsea in the second half of last season. George is yet to score or make an assist for the club, but he is the Toffees' only out-and-out left winger. Johnson can play on the left, but he favours playing as a right-winger.
