Everton are not a club that is well represented at the 2026 World Cup in North America, with just four players who play for the side currently on international rosters.

Of the four, three are likely regular starters or key pieces of their squads, that being England's Jordan Pickford and Senegal's Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye, with Scotland's Nathan Patterson on the fringes of their team.

The same number of Toffees have already featured in the tournament, which is reaching the end of the first round of group stage matches today, with second games starting tomorrow for Groups A and B.

Pickford will play for England against Croatia in Arlington, Texas later this afternoon, as the Three Lions start their campaign to lift the cup.

With that said, let's take a look at how the other three faired in their opening matches for their respective countries.

Patterson a non-factor in Scotland's win

Nathan Patterson was not in the starting XI for Scotland in Saturday's 1-0 win over Haiti, the country's first World Cup win since 1990.

Instead, it was Brentford's Aaron Hickey at right back for the Tartan Army, who played 75 minutes and picked up a yellow card early in the second half.

It's possible this factored into Steve Clarke's decision to bring Patterson on in the 75th minute, especially given how strict the tournament's yellow card accumulation rules are.

Patterson had just 10 touches in those 15 minutes, completing 1/2 long balls and 3/4 of his passes in that spell. He also had a block, two clearances, and won one aerial duel, while losing both of his ground duels.

The level of competition goes up for Scotland on Friday, as they face FIFA's no.7 team, Morocco, as the Scots look to hold onto the top spot in Group C.

A less than auspicious beginning for Senegal

The Lions of Teranga had a tough test for their opening match, facing off against France, one of the favorites in the tournament and FIFA's no.3 ranked team coming into the World Cup.

Les Bleus controlled much of the match, and eventually took home all three points with a 3-1 win on Tuesday in New Jersey through a brace from Kylian Mbappe leading the charge.

Gana started in Senegal's midfield, but Ndiaye was on the bench at the outset, although he would sub into the match in the 83rd minute. Despite that, he provided the assist for Senegal's only goal, a 90+5 consolation for fellow substitute Ibrahim Mbaye, that Mbappe canceled out a minute later.

Next to contend with for Senegal: Erling Haaland and Norway next Monday night.
