Iliman Ndiaye makes Everton history (and provides symmetry)

For all the hemming and hawing about the lineup, it is hard to find much fault in the opening minutes of Everton's first ever Premier League match at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees got off to a decent start, looking a lot more comfortable in David Moyes' set up in its second match running, after looking unsettled and out of sorts against Leeds United on Monday at Elland Road.

And then, in the 23rd minute, Everton made a little history.

Brighton had gotten a few near chances from Kaoru Mitoma and Danny Welbeck, but the Seagulls were unable to find the back of the net.

But then a long throw to Everton striker Thierno Barry was well held up by the young Frenchman and nodded down to Iliman Ndiaye, who danced around at midfield and found Idrissa Gana Gueye, who quickly moved the ball to a streaking Kiernan Dewbury-Hall.

The Everton midfielder almost immediately fizzed the ball out to Jack Grealish, who drove the ball into the box and whipped a low cross into the box. Ndiaye, who continued his run from midfield, smashed it past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to give Everton a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

It's a lovely bit of symmetry for the club, too, as Ndiaye was the final Everton player to score a goal for the club at Goodison Park, bagging a brace in the Toffees' 2-0 win over Southampton on May 18.

The goal gave Everton supporters a glimpse of what things can look like moving forward this season. And with Tyler Dibling reportedly on the way to Merseyside, the creativity appears that the creativity it will only improve for the Toffees.

We'll see how the rest of the match plays out, but history has been made at Hill Dickinson Stadium today, and it's excellent that it was Everton who got the opening goal.
