Everton are determined to add further reinforcements on the flanks, with the club only having Jack Harrison, Dwight McNeil and possibly new signing Iliman Ndiaye who can operate in wide areas now.

There is also of course 38-year-old Ashley Young - who has penned a new one-year contract - but that is surely not a realistic or indeed a long-term option.

Names have come and gone in recent weeks without any further progress, with Yankuba Minteh and then Jaden Philogene both allegedly ready to join the Blues before things went south and both deals fell through.

Other players too are being linked but so far nothing concrete has emerged and the wait for more additions continues.

So, Gnonto is apparently back on the agenda with another report claiming the Toffees are yet again considering a move for a player they tried hard to sign last summer.

The former Italian youth international very nearly became an Everton player a year ago before a proposed transfer came undone and Gnonto eventually stayed at Elland Road.

Earlier in the summer his name came up again and after the failure of those earlier deals the Blues are returning to the 20-year-old.

Leeds' failure to win promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season also means they are under severe financial pressure and will have to sell some playing assets to help balance the books.

Several of those players will also no doubt want to move on to and so other top flight clubs will be circling to see of they can secure a signing or two.

Although not a prolific goal-scorer, Gnonto's numbers are decent enough and he is a still young player who presumably might represent good sell-on potential later if he gets better.

As we all know only too well, there is no doubt Everton need more pace, attacking threat and goals next season, Will Gnonto eventually prove to be the player to help provide it?
