Everton face increasing resistance to signing Gyfli Sigurdsson
By Paul Taylor
If Everton still have designs on bringing Gyfli Sigurdsson to Goodison Park, it’s going to cost a lot more than originally anticipated.
Swansea City have apparently had enough. As a result, Everton are set to suffer the backlash…in a manner of speaking.
Everton have long been admirers of Gylfi Sigurdsson. In fact, they apparently offered £25 million for him last summer, but this was rejected by the Swans.
As this summer’s transfer window opened, the Blues were once again linked with Sigurdsson. However, if they still have designs on him, it’s going to cost a lot more than initially projected.
As reported by The Guardian, Swansea have put a £50 million price tag on their playmaker. They are determined to hold onto him and are doing everything possible to scare off other teams.

In truth, Swansea are in a position of strength, with Sigurdsson signing a four-year extension just last summer. However, it is interesting they have increased their price tag, which was previously set at £40 million.
This move was likely made as a result of all the transfer money which has been spent recently. Essentially, the Swans realise there is a possibility their two-time player of the year could leave, but if he does, they’re going to get as much cash as possible.
In this respect, it’s a smart business move by Swansea, but where does this leave Everton? We know they had money to spend, even more so after selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.
However, at what point do they tap out and admit defeat in their pursuit of Sigurdsson? How much are they prepared to invest in a player who scored nine goals and added 13 assists last season, to help save his team from relegation?
Certainly, the thought of Sigurdsson and Yannick Bolasie (when he returns from injury) flying down opposing wings must be a enticing one for Evertonians. Now, it’s just a case of finding out how eager Everton are, to make this vision become a reality.

Sigurdsson would obviously be an excellent signing for Everton. However, at what point should they just walk away, i.e. what’s the most you believe they should be prepared to pay for the winger? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
