Everton: Ronald Koeman ready to let Joel Robles leave
By Paul Taylor
Deportivio La Coruna have stepped up their bid to sign Joel Robles, as Ronald Koeman accepts it’s now time for the goalkeeper to leave Everton.
Last week, we shared a report that Joel Robles had decided against signing a contract extension with Everton. With one year remaining on his current deal, he was effectively telling the Blues to sell him this summer, or risk losing him for nothing.
At the time, it was reported by Spanish sports newspaper Marca, that at least five teams were interested in signing Robles. This included Huddersfield, Deportivo La Coruna, Malago, Las Palmas and his home-town team, Getafe.
Now, as per a new report from the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones, Deportivo have emerged as favourites to sign the 27-year-old, after stepping up their interest. This has coincided with Ronald Koeman finally deciding he will allow the goalkeeper to leave.

This should come as no surprise, considering recent events on Wednesday evening. Robles did not see a single minute of action, as Koeman played Maarten Stekelenburg for the entire game versus FC Twente.
In truth, Robles has never truly earned the trust of his manager. One example came late on last season, when he was dropped against West Ham United, after a blunder in the previous game versus Burnley resulted in a penalty.
The former Atletico Madrid player saw his future further compromised, when Everton recently signed Jordan Pickford. Probably seeing the writing on the wall, you can understand why he decided to reject the offer of a new contract.
In total, Robles has made 63 starts during his four seasons on Merseyside. With his time nearly up, you can argue he underachieved, after never fully taking advantage of the opportunity presented, to become the unquestioned number one in goal.
