Everton are reportedly just one of a number of clubs interested in signing Linfield’s young winger, Paul Smyth.

One of the most impressive things about Everton, is how much effort they put into their youth setup. This was perfectly illustrated by the Under-23s side winning the inaugural Premier League 2 title last season.

Now, the Blues are looking to add to their impressive array of young talent. As per a report from the Birmingham Mail‘s Shane Ireland, they are keeping tabs on Linfield’s teen sensation, Paul Smyth.

Ireland writes that the speculation was first reported by the Belfast Telegraph. Everton are just one of a number of sides intrigued by Smyth, along with Birmingham City, Newcastle United, Sunderland and Sheffield United.

Understandably, this leads to the question of why there is so much interest in the 19-year-old? Pure and simple, he is making waking waves in Northern Ireland as one of the best young talents to emerge from there in a long time.

Smyth has excellent ability on the ball, and combined with his pace, makes him a nightmare for defenders to deal with. Combine this with his work ethic and confidence, and you have the makings of a player who has the chance for a long and prosperous career in professional football.

More from Transfer Rumors

The winger made his senior team debut for Linfield F.C. in September 2015. Last season, he played a major role in helping them win their first league championship since 2012, scoring eight goals in 15 games.

Smyth’s talents have seen him already gain priceless experience at the international level, for Northern Ireland. He has played for the Under-21 team and trained with the senior side.

Ireland notes the youngster has already been the subject of a reported £60,000 bid from Crawley Town. However, this offer was rejected by Lindfield.

We know money won’t be an issue for Everton. Now, it remains to be seen if they actually make a move for a player who has admitted he wants to test himself at a higher level.
