Everton are on the lookout for help at left back, with German international Marcel Halstenberg reportedly at the top of their list of potential targets.

Leighton Baines has verged on being super human with how durable he’s been during his time at Everton. It’s why he’s played the most games at full back in Blues’ history, helping him to the most assists by a defender since the inception of the Premier League.

However, even Baines is starting to slow down. As such, it’s understandable Everton would be on the lookout for other reliable options at left back.

According to the Daily Post, this search has led the Blues to take a look at Marcel Halstenberg. Referencing a report from the Daily Mail, David Prentice writes that Everton sent a scout to Wembley last Friday, to watch the left back make his international debut for Germany against England.

Certainly, you can understand why the Blues would be interested in Halstenberg. As Prentice notes, he’s good at getting down the wing, is excellent at crosses and most importantly, strong in defence.

More from Transfer Rumors

The 26-year-old has been a revelation since signing for RB Leipzig in August 2015. He has been a regular in the side, helping them gain promotion and secure a Champions League place in successive seasons.

Halstenberg has 18 months remaining on his current contract. However, if the Toffees are to have any chance of signing him, they will face stiff competition for his services.

According to the Daily Mail‘s Simon Jones, RB Leipzig are preparing to receive enquiries in January, when the transfer window reopens. Jones writers that this could include the Premier League’s top eight teams, many of who were in attendance at Wembley last Friday.
