We take a look at three Everton players who can impact the Merseyside derby.

Everton has been second to Liverpool for quite a few seasons now. The Reds are better in all aspects and Everton has no choice but to accept their shortcomings. This season it has been even worse as the Reds cruise to their first ever Premier League title. Despite Liverpool and Toffees separated by 11 places in the league, Merseyside derby is expected to be a feisty affair. Everton has had problems of their own but can still throw a stern challenge at Liverpool. The Toffees could even win the derby should these players fire at all cylinders.

1.      Lucas Digne

The left back has been one of the most successful players in the recent years and is rightly regarded as one of the best left backs in the league. Under Ancelotti, Lucas Digne has enjoyed more attacking freedom on the left side. The 26 year old has racked up 5 assists this term and is only behind Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson in most assists by a defender. For the Toffees to threaten Reds, it is crucial that Digne is given space and time to exploit the left flank. His pin point passes and crosses in the opposition goal area will be crucial. Everton have best headers in form of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin and it will be important that Digne poses threat from the left side. The Toffees can exploit the space left by Trent Alexander-Arnold as the Englishman bombards forward and that’s when the Frenchman could come clutch.

2.      Richarlison

If Everton want to win the game, Richarlison needs to be at the top of his game. No errors must be made by him and he must pounce on every chance he gets at goal. However, his job shouldn’t solely be goalscoring. He must act as a link-up between the midfield and the attack. The Toffees midfield is no match to Liverpool and the game is often won in the middle of the park. Richarlison will have to retreat from attack and join the midfield from time to time or carry the ball into the final third from the middle. The Brazilian has immense pace and can capitalize when the Toffees get a chance to counter attack.

3.      Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The 23 year old striker has enjoyed a purple patch under Carlo Ancelotti. The striker has notched 13 goals so far in the league and before the lockdown happened he was showing no signs of slowing down. He must showcase his A-game against Liverpool or else the blue half of Merseyside may find themselves in a deep trouble. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has the power and the pace to go shoulder to shoulder with Liverpool defenders and get past them. He will also need to time his runs to perfection or can easily fall in the off-side trap. Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman, the two Everton full backs will have to dart crosses and DCL must make contact with the headers. His tuning with Richarlison will also be essential as the two front men can cause menace up front.
