PSG are now considering a contract renewal for Everton target Thiago Silva.

When PSG Sporting director Leonardo stated that they will be bidding farewell to long serving pair of Thiago Silva and Edinson Cavani at the end of the season, Everton fans rejoiced as the veteran defender could be on his way to England to reunite with Carlo Ancelotti. Since the announcement by Les Parisiens, the Toffees have also ramped up their efforts to sign the 35 year old Brazilian.

Ancelotti also played his trick by personally calling his former pupil and letting him know that Everton are keen on signing him. Sooner or later, Everton were expected to close in on the defender. As for Silva, there were whispers of him returning to Fluminense in Brazil but the player himself quashed the rumours stating he still has things to achieve in Europe.

"Everyone knows about the soft spot I have for Fluminense. I had the episode of tuberculosis and they opened their doors to me. I am eternally grateful for that, but I still have goals in Europe to be fulfilled. I hope I can achieve them as soon as possible. (via BeSoccor)"

Everton could have been the perfect destination for Silva, he could have ended his playing career in England and added another leaf of playing in world’s most competitive league to the hat. Everton were linked to other centre backs but no link was concrete compared to Silva’s.

However, the Toffees have been left shell shocked after the news surfaced that the Ligue 1 giants are mulling over extending Silva’s stay at Parc des Princes. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, PSG are thinking of renewing Thiago Silva’s contract.

The talks are in infant stages and nothing is finalized but the corridors remain open for Thiago Silva and PSG to renew their association. PSG were perhaps prompted into thinking a renewal for Silva because their transfer target Milan Skriniar is also being chased by Manchester City and Manchester United.

So, in case they fail to sign the Inter Milan man, renewing the Brazilian veteran’s contract could be a last resort. However, this will be a huge blow to Ancelotti and Everton who were preparing themselves for a welcome of Thiago Silva. Even though the 35 year old was linked to Fiorentina and AC Milan, the Merseysiders have the ‘Ancelotti’ persuasion factor which would work in their favor.

As for Silva, if he still intends to reunite with the Italian boss, he shall reject a deal from PSG, if it arrives. Perhaps, PSG wouldn’t be willing to offer him a crucial squad role, more of bits and pieces and deducing from how determined Thiago Silva is, he would like to have a slightly more prominent role than of a substitute.
