Arsenal is leading the race to sign Everton target Marc Roca.

A few weeks ago, Everton were strongly linked to Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca. Along with the Toffees, teams like Real Madrid, Arsenal and AC Milan were also in the hunt to sign the upcoming midfield talent. While the interest of Milan and Los Blancos has softened with passage of time, Arsenal is determined to make a move for Roca.

Espanyol’s demotion to Segunda division has put Marc Roca’s admirers into an advantageous position as the Blanquiazules are now forced to lower their €40 million asking price. Earlier the Spanish club was adamant that if any team wants Roca they’ll have to pay the €40 million release clause.

Arsenal and Everton both are in dire need to bolster their midfield options and while Arsenal have targeted the likes of Thomas Partey, the Merseysiders are hoping to bring Allan, Matias Vecino to the team. Marc Roca is a common target but from what the latest reports say, the Gunners are edging closer to the 23 year old.

According to Spanish media outlet La Razon, Arsenal is better positioned than Everton and Real Madrid to sign Marc Roca. Real are perhaps out of the race as they turn their attention to signing Eduardo Camavinga. This will be another blow to the Toffees who are now falling short of realistic transfer options.

The Spaniard has blossomed into a fine central defensive midfielder and wants to try his fortune at a better club. With Espanyol’s relegation, the 23 year old is in no mood to stay with the Blanquiazules, preferring a move to the Premier League. The report also suggested that Espanyol will lower their asking price to €25-€30 million should any club make an official bid.

As for Everton, they will have to continue their search for an all round central midfielder. Amer Gojak of Dinamo Zagreb was the most recently linked player then there are murmurs of Boubakary Soumare eyeing a move to England. With the transfer window opening on 27th July, more players will be linked to the Toffees in upcoming days. However, it remains to be seen which are baseless rumours and which are actually strong possibilities.
