Michael Keane paired alongside Ben Godfrey in central defence.

Defence:

Seamus Coleman – 6

Seamus Coleman had a bright start to the game and looked strong on the ball but soon he became weak as Rotherham’s attacks mostly originated from their left hand side. Coleman struggled at times while defending but managed to gather himself. Not a performance that he’ll be content with but on certain days it’s just about getting over the line.

Ben Godfrey – 6

Ben Godfrey did start the game at centre back but ended up playing as a left back in the latter half of the game. Godfrey showed resilience and solidity and saved Everton from situations that could have lead to a goal. He was the better centre back and arguably the best defender in the back four.

Michael Keane – 5

Michael Keane returned to the team after being given some much deserved rest against West Ham United. The Englishman was not up to the mark today and made a few errors that could have cost Everton badly. Keane’s passing to was fragile at times. Certainly not the kind of return Keane had in mind.

Lucas Digne – 5.5

Lucas Digne made a miraculous return, ahead of his schedule, starting against Rotherham. My biggest worry was that Digne shouldn’t be rushed back and it didn’t seem that was the case. The Frenchman looked relaxed on the ball and made a few flashy attacking runs, however, the constant pressure from Matt Olosunde made life difficult for him. Obviously, he was not in his best shape but his return will be a huge sigh of relief for the fans.
