When the chips were down at halftime at Goodison Park, Everton boss Frank Lampard changed the system a bit and introduced Dele Alli. Alli’s introduction in the game was the first tipping point that initiated the comeback.

Over the course of the last six to eight weeks, many heroes have emerged who have played a monumental part in Everton staying up in the Premier League. Alex Iwobi, Richarlison, Jordan Pickford, Fabian Delph and few others have risen up to the task and performed exceptionally well when it mattered the most.

However, there’s one name that has remained in the backdrop and hasn’t had much time to showcase his flair and shine. Since moving to Everton on the deadline day of the winter transfer window, Alli has been barely used by Frank Lampard. Most of his appearances came as a substitute, making small 15-20 minute cameos.

Against Palace too, he came on as a substitute and changed the course of the game. These are the kind of performances that you’d expect from Alli when he’s in top notch form. He may not have gotten ridiculous goals or assists but his presence all round the park was enough to help Everton make a historic come back.

Dele Alli must start for Everton

His presence allowed Everton to push forward and cause trouble to the Crystal Palace defence which eventually lead to a three goal comeback. Alli must not stop here. He seems to have hit the spring in his stride and needs to get another outing before the season end.

Next season will start on a clean slate but one game still remains in the season. Everton plays their final Premier League game against Arsenal and Alli should be a prime candidate to start the game. The Englishman will be aiming to finish the season on a positive note which could set the tone for next season.

With Arsenal fighting for a Champions League spot, Alli can help his former team Tottenham Hotspur out by putting in a solid shift against the Gunners. Arsenal needs a win and hope that Norwich City stun Spurs but if Arsenal stutter, their dream is over.

After struggling for the last 18 months or so, Alli finally showcased a performance that justified his potential. It is now time for him to grab this opportunity and not let Lampard and Everton down. The 26 year old needs to produce these kinds of performances on a more regular basis and getting one against Arsenal will be a good starting point.
