Stade Rennais defender Adrien Truffert seems to be on Everton’s radar. Everton are planning to make drastic changes to the squad as the side hopes to avoid a similar predicament of last season where they escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth.

Since Farhad Moshiri took over in 2016, Everton have been spending big money in the transfer market except for last season when their hands were tied by Profit and Sustainability rules. The Toffees cannot keep on spending opulently and rely on cash injections from the owner every year. A part of income needs to be generated from player sales.

The Toffees are now targeting young, competent players that will have a good resale value in the future. The Toffees have been linked to players like Cheick Doucoure, Conor Gallagher, Kristoffer Ajer, Levi Colwill and others and all have a common point, they are young and blossoming at their respective clubs.

Frank Lampard has an excellent track record with youngsters. His Chelsea career provides the strongest evidence. When hit with a transfer embargo, Chelsea youngsters like Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Reece James under Lampard excelled and hit new levels of productivity.

Everton target Adrien Truferrt has spoken about the transfer links

There is no reason to believe that Lampard cannot emulate similar results at Everton with the young players available at his disposal at Goodison Park. Truffert, at 20, looks very appealing in an economic as well as sporting sense.

The left back has been the first choice left back for the last two seasons at Stade Rennais, making 75 appearances, scoring four goals and providing seven assists. The Toffees have Vitaliy Mykolenko as the first choice left back but have no cover for him. Niels Nkounkou spent last season on loan at Standard Liege and will now be assessed by Lampard in the summer.

In conversation with RMC Sport (relayed by Stade Rennais), Truffert addressed the transfer links. Apart from Everton, even Dutch champions Ajax have shown interest in the 20 year old French defender.

"Everton and Ajax interested? Yes I was aware. Obviously it’s flattering to have clubs that are interested in you. Honestly the question today does not necessarily arise. I have a contract until 2025 with Stade Rennes. We had a complicated end to the season, there I have the U-21 qualifications with the hopes of which for the moment this question, I do not have to ask myself. I’ll ask myself that later, with my parents and my agents. My parents are super important, it’s a strength."

Truffert has a contract till the summer of 2025 but he will at some point in time talk with his representatives over his future. Everton may continue to monitor the left back whose stock has risen quickly and is now valued at just under £11 million by Transfermarkt.
