Everton are set to miss out on the signing of RB Leipzig midfielder Tom Krauss. With Tom Davies leaving as a free agent, EFC will need to add depth to their central midfield department and they are looking at midfield options in the market.

Davies bid farewell to his boyhood club after 14 years with the Toffees. He was offered a contract that has been rejected by the local Merseyside lad as he has decided to move on in search of regular playing time. Davies’ departure currently leaves EFC with four midfielders – Amadou Onana, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueye and James Garner. Onana’s future also remains in doubt as he is admired by Chelsea and other top clubs.

Sean Dyche’s system heavily relies on competent, physical and hard working midfielders. He does have a perfect trio in Onana, Doucoure and Gueye who can carry out their roles and complement each other. However, the Toffees are scarce in depth when it comes to midfield, they need reinforcements in the engine room.

Everton target Tom Krauss rejects a move to Premier League

The Merseysiders have already been linked with several midfielders like Lassana Coulibaly, Tom Krauss, Emiliano Martinez and Batista Mendy. Krauss spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Schalke. Die Knappen had an obligation to buy Krauss if they did not get relegated to Bundesliga 2. However, Schalke got relegated to Germany’s second division, meaning that Krauss will return to RB Leipzig.

However, Leipzig are looking to sell Krauss and Everton were keen on the German central midfielder. The Toffees knocked on the door of Leipzig for Krauss but as things stand, he is set for a move to Mainz. According to Sky Sports Germany, Krauss has an agreement with Mainz and has rejected a move to the Premier League.

RB Leipzig want around €5 million to €7 million for the 22 year old. The Toffees have been trying to sign a midfielder but it appears yet another target will not join Everton. EFC need to sign a central midfielder to add depth to the midfield department.

If Onana leaves, EFC will have to enter the market to sign at least two central midfielders this summer. Krauss could have been a valuable addition to the Everton side. At 22, he still has best years ahead of him and being available for around €7 million wouldn’t have put a lot of stress on Everton’s pockets.
