Everton should think of moving on from farcical Philogene situation

There is increasing confusion and uncertainty about which Premier League club Jaden Philogene will eventually be joining this summer.

As one of the interested parties, Everton were, as we reported earlier, apparently the 22-year-old's preferred destination over newly promoted Ipswich Town.

According to this story Philogene was keen on moving to Merseyside and joining the Blues, despite the fact that only Ipswich had put a concrete and seemingly official bid on the table for him.

However, yesterday the whole situation became more and more uncertain with various reports confirming and then contradicting this story.

By the end of yesterday the situation was as clear as mud and today no one seems any the wiser about which club Philogene will be moving to.

Other reports today also claimed that another side Crystal Palace have entered the race for his signature and there are rumours his former club Aston Villa might even invoke a buy-back clause in the contract they agreed when he left for Hull City less than twelve months ago!

To be honest this whole scenario is becoming increasingly farcical and resembling a soap-opera and I am of the view now that Everton should consider walking away and moving on for other targets.

While Philogene would be a good buy if he did eventually come to the Toffees, I do not think this kind of situation is worth it and the club should not be wasting any more time on it.

Anyway, there are other potential targets that Everton should be looking at as they search for affordable attacking talent, particularly on the flanks.

Several times I have highlighted some of these players - especially those who are like Philogene plying their trade in the Championship - such as Jack Clarke or Wilfried Gnonto for example.

Of course, the Blues do not have to only look at players in the Championship for fresh talent, there is plenty around Europe as well and several who have improved their reputation in this summer's Euros.
