It's fairly obvious that there's a curse against Everton when they travel to London to take on Chelsea, and while the Toffees have managed to exorcise some demons this season, Stamford Bridge may be one of the biggest yet.
And so David Moyes' side will travel tomorrow to take on Chelsea on Saturday afternoon, a match which will feature the return of two key players in the Everton engine room from suspension (although one will be gone again for an extended period after tomorrow).
With that in mind, the Everton manager will have the most choices for his starting unit that he's had for quite a while, although many of those decisions are about to be taken away from him due to AFCON.
Let's take a look at how Moyes could line up his side in order to face off against the London Blues.
Everton starting XI vs Chelsea (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper & Defenders
Jordan Pickford (GK): No questions here, as the Everton 'keeper is one of those penned in starters for Moyes, and likely will be for most of the duration of his time at the club.
Vitalii Mykolenko (LB): He remains a solid, yet unspectacular option, and until Moyes decides that Adam Aznou might be ready to join the fray, the Ukrainian will be the choice here.
James Tarkowski (CB): The Everton vice captain will probably hold his spot, although January, and the potential return of Jarrad Branthwaite will complicate his position. For now, he remains where he is.
Michael Keane (CB): Another player who will see his role change when Branthwaite returns, but for now, is likely Moyes' most stable center back.
Jake O'Brien (RB): This is a real situation of what we believe Moyes will do versus what we think he should do. The Ireland international is solid here, and if the manager aims to defend the block, he's likely the go-to here.
Midfielders
Idrissa Gana Gueye (CDM): The Senegal international will get one more run before AFCON upon return from his suspension. Moyes will save Tim Iroegbunam, who will probably get most of the run while Gana is away, for that stretch.
James Garner (CM): Although he's an option at right back, for now, the Englishman probably slides back into his pairing spot next to Gana.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (CAM): If there is a downgrade here with Gana returning, it's only getting one of KDH and Charly Alcaraz in the lineup. Here's hoping Alcaraz gets a run at some point on Saturday, but Dewsbury-Hall has been a revelation of late for Moyes' side.
Forwards
Jack Grealish (LW): He hasn't been as spectacular in recent weeks as he was to start the season, but there's no doubt that the Manchester City loanee is part of what makes this Everton attack click.
Iliman Ndiaye (RW): He will be missed while away with Senegal, maybe more than Gana. His dynamism has been key for the club this year.
Thierno Barry (CF): The young striker has earned his spot, at least for the near future. Beto is a great option off the bench, but Barry is the guy who'll be here for a few years to come.
